Welcome the world of Mama Shamone

Band members

  • Mama (Vox)
  • Ru (Bass)
  • Flip (Guitar)
  • Jules (Drums)

Mama Shamone will hit you like an industrial can of beans.

Their jittery dance-rock has got producers from Mark Ronson to Martin Rushent (Human League, the Buzzcocks, the Stranglers) shuffling their limbs.

The London band gained momentum after Myspace made them band of the week in early 2007. European dates in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Barcelona and Berlin, soon followed as well as two dates at Glastonbury 2008

Because it's live that Mama Shamone have really earned their reputation. As well as Bestival, they were the only band to be asked back to play Vice's Tales of the Jackalope twice on one day.

They've headlined Barcelona's Razzmatazz, supported Bloc Party and The Rakes and played some of the filthiest parties in Berlin, including White Trash, Rio and the Fusion Festival.

They are also firmly associated with loved and feared underground club, ******* Batty Bass (Hannah Holland, Mama and MC Chickaboo).

Why are they booked so consistently? Well, their live show is a full on sweaty juggernaut of rock riffs, and foot-twitching electro rhythms. Let's paint the picture.

Behooded axe-demon Flip X and sex-on-legs bassist Ru have broken instruments, been electrocuted and knocked out without missing a beat. Adrenalin junkie Killer Jules on drums would give the Duracell bunny a run for his money.

But all eyes ultimately train on lead singer, Mama. A dirty, flirty, teasing, heavy metal Tina Turner, she climbs walls, commits acts of gratuitous violence. Just watch out for those stiletto heels.

Guaranteed to stir up your party with a spoon of epic proportions - welcome to the world of Mama Shamone.

Thought I was listening to The Sugarbabes for a min, more catchy but bland pop. And I dont mean that in a good way.

  2. mikeinlondon

Dank.....its simple they deserve to be heard by the largest audience possible! They are just awesome live, and more people need to hear them. Their live show is legendary and is not to be missed. Road to V needs bands like this to get the crowd going!

  3. dankojones

if they had a chance to play at glastonbury this year why do they need to play at V?

  4. mikeinlondon

I saw Mama Shamone at Glastonbury, they were just amazing. Such energy live, and they know how to get the crowd going. There must have been over 500 people in the tent they played in and before they went on everyone was being very quiet. More or less as soon as they played their first song the crowd got going. They were going mental for them by the end. Definitely the sort of band you want to open a festival I'd say!

Widget, midget whatever your name is. If you wanna **** me off at least be orginal. Copy and paste is so passe. If u make music yourself i bet you copy and paste as well.

It felt like Christmas for about 15 seconds then suddenly I found myself sitting in a shit pub in Camden on a rainy day with warm beer. The foreplay was ok then the sex is shit. Oh, then it's ok again. Then it's back to shit. All in under 3 minutes.

  7. Oki Dog

They played Bestival. They played In The City. They played in Berlin, Moscow, Sweden, Amstedam, even China wants them to play. They are due to play TWO sets in Glasto. So I think it's only fair that they get V as well. I'm not try to tell V to jump on the bandwangon, but let's put it this way, this might be the only time you guys are gonna get these guy play for free. So, why not eh? Plus, it's about time you let black people and women open for you! Not that I'm calling V sexist and racist. Oh no. AND MOST OF ALL. THIS IS GOOD TIME PARTY MUSIC THAT GETS PEOPLE IN THE MOOD TO ROCK OUT AND DANCE. And this is what V is about, innit? Viva La Mama!

  8. Jungle

This dust lad is boring- I'd compare his comments to Graham Norton's Smegma. DJ Jungle

  9. Everysecondcounts

    Hmm not my kinda thing....

  10. stars_in_the_dust

entertaining, but slightly obscene. It seemed like they were compensating for something (perhaps the annoying repetitive music?) when the singer felt the need to strip off and perform with her tits and arse hanging out swinging all over the place. Throwing her stilettos into the audience was frankly irresponsible! someone could have been hurt!

  11. Bach Bone

    Tina Turner on rusks ?

  12. orangeblossom

mmm dont really like this band....

  13. Dodo on a Stick

Didnt do much for me, sorry, needed to step it up a gear i think.

  14. battyHannahbass

this is by far the most exciting band, and it would be a travesty for them not to absolutely rock the batty out of V. Love em!

  15. Apollo89

I love Mama Shamone. All their songs are great. I think my favourite is Something Beautiful. I wanna see em live!

  16. dale1dale

we all know that all the final 14 are absolute streight down the line shit!!! there all the same dance indie crap that we are all sick of hearing on radio 1!!!! the fact is that nun of these 14 bands will do anything because there music "style" is dead!!

  17. Jungle

With reference to rx4eva21, Arcadian aren't bitter mate they're just gutted they didn't get through really after having loads of people tip them. But what stands out to them the most is the fact that people, fans and whoever have been invited to comment on bands from the minute this website was set-up but its done nothing to help in terms of judges consideration, as if people's views weren't even taken into account! All the best though Shamone, DJ Jungle x

Dear Mr. Branson, This is my first time on the internet. I have to say I'm quite impressed. Being able to hear Mama Shamone was the only reason my family got a computer. You guys are so big here in Delhi - Shamone is the now the most popular name at my call centre - bigger than Agnes! It will take us many months to walk to this place you called V and we have to leave in the next few days. So please close this charade of a competition and give Mama her rightful place at your religious festival. Thank you Mr. Branson you make very nice pickle but your beard is most inauspicious. When the party is over I am going back to my village where I shall dream about the next party.

  19. red21
